Perry's Character

Perry has been described as a natural born killer. Though he has also been described as a poet (or intellectual). As you look toward Perry's character is fascinating. when you look at it does perry remind you of a character from another story, movie, or real life people now or in history.

  1. Truman Capote uses the back and forth of describing Perry’s character as first good qualities then less than admirable qualities to create a sympathetic character that still seems likely to be able to be a ruthless killer. Capote is creating an internal conflict in the reader so that one doesn’t know whether or not to think about Perry and the motives for the killing. While he is a “ruthless killer”, which creates the impression that he would merely do this for a large sum of money, he is also portrayed as a caring individual who could be carrying out a personal grudge for someone. While Perry doesn’t particularly portray a person in popular culture currently, that merely shows the creativity of Capote’s style of writing. The transitions between the different sides of Perry are examples of the intercutting technique used in part one to add suspense, now the intercutting technique is employed to make the reader question the line between good and evil and how to predict whether or not someone knows where the line is.
